begin with developing news in silicon valley. the san jose fire department just confirmed a large fire was deadly. one woman died and five-six others were injured. crews got a handle on the incident in about 45 minutes. we will have a live report and get some more details in just a couple of minutes >> a major disruption this morning for thousands of north bay commuters. there is no fairy service from larkspur or sausalito due to downtown san francisco. a strike has prompted a shutdown until the middle of the afternoon. workers plan to picket in about a half-hour >> is actually really quiet here right now with some news crews and extra security. no ticket line yet. earlier we saw some very workers gathered in the parking lot but they appear to have left

so there's no major action going on. if you are just waking up and planning to use the ferry, there is no service this morning between marin and san francisco. now we're hearing that the strike could last into tomorrow morning as well making this a two day strike. golden gate transit decided to shut down ferry service after workers decided on the strike. the media announcement yesterday hoping that people would find other arrangements. union members had been working without a contract since last year. you can still use the golden gate transit buses. a little bit earlier this morning we saw some people lined up for regular bus service but a lot of people have to find other ways around. >> there will not be any service tomorrow morning >> that is a surprise to me >> i didn't know that >> how you plan on getting in? >> we will need to see

>> a, really ugly, we're just outside the mission police station and we found some aftermath of the events, what looks to be a police shield with bits of paint splattered all over this helmet and now police hope this is not an indicator of things to come. we've seen officers driving around the area making sure that vandals to not come back. vandals hit the area on 17th and valencia just around 9:15 p.m.. they actually smashed windows and threw paint on the police stations and businesses in the neighborhood. witnesses say they saw about 50 people taking part. officers lined up around the station to protect it from war damage. one person was arrested. look at the damage done to this aston martin along with other cars parked in the neighborhood. there is a lot of cleanup to be done and i'm sure they hope this is the last they have seen of this. originally the events were

organized by occupy protesters as family friendly events. one protester told us he wasn't sure who the group was but said they were not associated with occupy and called the events heartbreaking. >> union workers occupied san francisco city hall last night hours before the vandalism. they demanded better salaries, higher taxes on businesses to pay for more city services. after about two hours they finally left peacefully. >> oakland police are criticized in the report assigned to check on police reform. it says the court ordered reforms have not progressed in six months and have actually gone backward in the past year. they also found it was a bean bag fired by an oakland officer that cause the head injury to an iraq war veteran scott olson last october >> more than 4000 registered

nurses are expected to stage a 24 hour strike starting this morning. they will walk off their jobs at 10 northern california hospitals. it will be the third such strike against sutter health in the past seven months. hospitals do plan to remain open with replacement workers. one nurse told the chronicle that management plans to lock them out until sunday morning. a very busy day today >> a lot of people are outside wondering what the weather will be like >> let's check in with lawrence >> the last couple of days have been really nice. today it will be a little bit breezy especially at the coastline. temperatures will be cooler outside with some patchy fog. temperatures in the 40's and '50's right now. yesterday we still have highs running up into the '80s. the cool sea breezes will

extend further onshore bringing in the marine air. the temperature will nosedive nine or 10 degrees in many spots. temperatures are cooling off with maybe some rain on the way. >> we have mass-transit troubles this morning, new information we got about cal train, delays expected this morning. apparently a tow truck drove onto the train tracks in mountain view and is causing delays systemwide. they're working to remove the vehicle off the tracks. cal train is on the southbound tracks right now so there may be delays as a result. a few minutes ago you heard from elisabeth, no service on the ferries today. we expect to see some busy conditions along the golden gate bridge. >> caltrans will start sorting through tons of debris today from that doyle drive demolition project over the weekend.

they say it will take a couple of months to holloway 90,000 t of concrete and steel. >> it will be broken up here and there will be a machine to process it and separate the concrete and steel. >> much of that material will be reused for other highway projects. >> investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire that injured 17 people in santa cruz county. five of them were critically injured when a fire damaged a residential hotel. the 85 year-old building had no sprinklers. the american red cross set up an emergency shelter. divers are searching more bodies of water this week looking for clues in the disappearance of sierra lamar who has not been seen since march 16th. in the next couple of days a plan to search parkway lakes as well as anderson and coyote reservoir is. a judge grants the request from

ross mirkarimi and his wife eliana lopez. the judge says that lopez may be remain in venezuela for up to seven more weeks. since mirkarimi is not being paid it, lopez will be allowed to look for work. the extended trip also allows their young son to avoid publicity. >> closing arguments begin today in the murder trial of edwin rahm most the accused gang member accused of killing his father into silence in 2008. he claims he was only driving the car at the time and that a fellow gang member inside was the actual shooter. his surviving relative of the victim says that he was the only person in the car. the alleged gunman behind california's worst school shooting in history is pleading not guilty. he entered the plea yesterday through a korean interpreter. he made little i contact with anyone in the court room. family members of the victims in that the few words he spoke

sausalito to downtown san francisco. district workers are staging a strike but the golden gate bus service is operating normally. nurses plan on staging a 24 hour strike starting at 7:00 this morning affecting 10 hospitals open by sutter health. >> today could be a little challenging because of the situation with the ferry service. let's go to traffic and find out how people are getting to work >> that definitely may cause some delays especially for the golden gate bridge. we also want to update you on the accident at the bay bridge. the no. 7 tollbooth is still blocked. hopefully that will be cleared within the next few minutes. no delays at the bay bridge toll plaza which is good news. onto these expected delays, golden gate ferry service has been cancelled. the bus service is still

running so you can use that as an alternate for the golden gate bridge. hopefully things will be under way by this afternoon. new details on all of this coming up. we're also dealing with cal train delays. i just got word that they cleared the tow truck off the tracks of thing should be getting back up to speed. most of the trains are on time except for 101 and 103. muni, case, mark, no problems. here is a live look at the golden gate bridge. the rest of the bay area is free of problems. it wind advisory is in effect on the san mateo bridge but no major delays. traffic is cruising right along, you might see some delays

on southbound 101 at marsh. slow and go conditions as you had through redwood city. >> we have a cooling trend in the bay area as we see the sea breeze kicking in. if you're headed out the door we have a couple of patches of fog to contend with. a little bit breezy already and towards the afternoon we will see the breeze kicking up. fifties and sixties out towards the beach is today. probably mid-70s that the warm spots so the cooling trend is in affect. a trough of low pressure is camping along the west coast which will bring to temperature's down at least the next couple of days and then there might be a chance of showers towards thursday. some of the win here will be picked up to about 25 mi. per hour by the afternoon. a pretty good push of a good sea breeze and that will help bring down the temperatures all

round. still pleasant in san jose. 68 in san mateo. east bay temperatures will be cooler today. low to mid '70's in the warmer spots and you'll feel the effects of with a breeze blowing in the afternoon. the next couple of days temperatures continue to drop. a few more clouds tomorrow and then a chance of showers. after that it looks like on friday when dry out. friday's looking good. probably back into the '70s everywhere you go >> the homeland's security department is launching its own investigation of the secret service prostitution scandal. the acting inspector general said yesterday that in his words work is beginning immediately. this comes as the secret service director faces deadlines

now >> there are some striking workers here already but they are near the front entrance sign so we are headed there in just a little bit. right in front of the ferry terminal is pretty quiet. we've seen extra security and police officers but it will be a frustrating day for a lot of commuters. some 6000 people rely on this service every day and they will need to find other ways around the golden gate bridge so expect extra delays. it is the second day for the new stretch of doyle drive as well. we're hearing of a second day of the strike continuing into tomorrow. at this point they don't have any plans to shut down ferry service for tomorrow morning so for right now we're dealing with this disruption for the day. they made the news hoping that people would find other alternates. they're protesting rising health-care costs and have been working without a contract since

to gather near the toll plaza in the next half hour. we will have a live update at 6:00. >> today is may day, a day of scheduled strikes all around the world. last night a vandalism spree, one of the targets was the mission police station on valencia's street. witnesses say about 50 people smashed windows and threw paint on the police station. and number of officers lined up to guard the station for more vandalism. one person arrested. vandals also hit an aston martin worth tens of thousands of dollars. other vehicles parked in the neighborhood had windows shattered and paint around. occupy protester says the vandalism was heartbreaking and he did not know who was responsible

prosecutors dropped a related criminal charges last summer. >> a bright yellow sports car belonging to a celebrity chef is a mystery no more, they found it in the east bay a year after it was stolen in san francisco. the big break in the case was a drive-by shooting in mill valley. sources tell cbs five that the incident led to the sheriff's department investigating point richmond >> did your son have any involvement in the theft? >> he didn't have anything to do with that >> investigators are looking for a gun but instead they found the sports car in a storage facility. the 17 year-old suspect is now under arrest. san francisco's unique system is moving to an aalborg boarding

that. we had some earlier cal train delays but that is being cleared up and everything should be back on time out. elsewhere we still deal with the accident that has been there for quite some time, the no. 7 tollbooth was hit by a vehicle at the bay bridge. they have a crew on the scene getting it out of the way. lots of green as you work your way off the east shore. once you get on the upper deck the traffic is clear all the way through san francisco. we have new reports of a multi vehicle accident in west on highway 4. a line of yellow and red, usually traffic is slow anywhere in this area but now it is extra busy. no word on any injuries so east bound is looking ok. no delays of the antioch bridge. we're dealing with a wind
